Buckwheat Honey Can Significantly Improve Human Intestinal Microorganisms

Recently, the Chinese academy of agricultural sciences bee research institute bee product processing and function evaluation team found that the polyphenols and oligosaccharides in buckwheat honey can play a synergistic role, selectively promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and inhibit pathogenic bacteria, so as to significantly improve the human intestinal microorganisms, which provides a theoretical basis for the improvement of quality and efficiency of low-cost honey and its in-depth development. The study was published online in (Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine).

According to researcher Zhang Hongcheng, the intestinal flora plays a crucial role in human health, and honey has been improving the gastrointestinal tract since ancient times. Buckwheat honey, due to its dark color and stimulating taste, used to be sold as a foreign product. The effects of polyphenols and oligosaccharides in buckwheat honey on the improvement of human intestinal microorganisms were studied. Twelve kinds of polyphenols and four kinds of oligosaccharides were identified in buckwheat honey samples from eight different producing areas by HPLC and ion chromatography. By sequencing human intestinal microorganisms in vitro, buckwheat honey has a more obvious effect on improving intestinal microorganisms compared with oligosaccharides of the same concentration.
